Where Wales’ Eight Universities Stand In Latest UK Rankings

Cardiff University has kept its crown as the number one university in Wales but has some of the least satisfied students, according to the latest rankings from The Complete University Guide 2024. Aberystwyth University in second place is once again best university in Wales for student satisfaction but along with the University of Wales Trinity St David it trails for graduate prospects.

Six of the eight Welsh universities have risen in the CUG rankings this year and two have fallen. Wrexham Glyndwr languishes at last on the list of 130 UK institutions ranked and is down three places compared to last year, while University of South Wales has dropped 10 places in the overall scores.

Cardiff is now listed as 21st in the UK, up five places on last year. Aberystwyth in second place for Wales comes 39th in the UK, climbing an impressive 14 places compared to last year. Download WalesOnline’s Premium app on Apple or Android.

Wrexham Glyndwr University is bottom of the overall table for Wales and the UK but fares better on student satisfaction and graduate prospects than some others

Swansea is up two places to take third spot in Wales and 40th place in the UK rankings. Bangor comes fourth in Wales and 52nd in UK going up 11 places and Cardiff Metropolitan University is up one place to be ranked fifth in Wales and 71st in the UK.

Wrexham Glyndwr may be last the list but it comes second in Wales for student satisfaction and fifth in Wales for graduate prospects. The University of South Wales is judged sixth overall in Wales and comes 101 for the UK, falling 10 places this year, while University of Wales Trinity St David is seventh in Wales and ranks in 118th place for the UK but is up two places.
